Even before the pandemic, fresh graduates in Indonesia had a hard time finding employment due to the competitiveness in the job market. In 2021, ILO estimated 13,9% of youths in Indonesia were unemployed, which means over 30 million youths were not able to find employment.

With the aim of helping students in rural Indonesia acquire a chance at a better future, YUM recognized the importance of providing them the knowledge and skills that goes beyond what is taught in their formal education.

Recently, YUM signed a partnership agreement with Teach for Indonesia, a Community Program initiated by Bina Nusantara (BINUS) University that is concerned with aspects of learning with the concept of community development which aims to improve the quality of life of the community, especially for the future development of children.

Since 2021, YUM has worked together with Teach for Indonesia, to bring skills workshops such as Financial Literacy, Job Seeking Skills, English Conversation classes, Healthy Nutrition and Public Speaking to youths in our working area of Cipanas, West Java. With this partnership, we hope to continue to connect lecturers (and students) of Bina Nusantara University to over 400 youths in Cipanas per year, so they may receive the knowledge and skills that they need to find decent employment in the future.

Just last month, we participated in the Empowering Society Festival where we connected with eager freshmen of BINUS University. These freshmen were there to get to know more about us, among other NGOs, and become aware of the conditions related to social problems around them.

It is through partnerships that we can continue to provide more knowledge and skills for youths to increase the likelihood of a better future.

As lecturers and university students come together to provide the knowledge in each of the workshops that we conducted, we found that students are eager to learn skills that they can apply to the rest of their lives.
